Marshall H- Inception
“Inception” was taken at the Hoover met. I increased the saturation on the sky and blurred the background but left the pillars in focus to invasive the pillars. It could be better if I got a better angle and if there were some clouds in the sky.
Carmen L.- BHAM
The title to this picture is called BHAM. It was taken in downtown on the interstate 2 weeks ago. It was taken with a Canon Camera. I edited by darkening it a little bit and putting in some contrast. I could’ve done better if I had some of the bottom buildings not covered and less wires around there.
Carson R- The Start of Spring
This image is entitled “The Start of Spring”. This was taken a few weeks ago at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham. I took it with my Nikon d3400. I edited this image by increasing the contrast of the image. I also used the dodge tool to brighten the main bud. I think that this image would be better if the depth of field had been a little larger.
Anna H- Hotel Callipepla
I titled this photo Hotel Callipepla in reference to the song Hotel California. Callipepla, also known as the California Quail, is a type of bird and, since birds don’t typically stay for long in bird houses, I called it a Hotel. This photo was taken in my backyard during December with my Canon T2i. I edited it in Nik Collections with the Analog Effect. This image could be better if I had paid better attention to the snow that stood to more than the others and edited those out.

Josie L- Lockers
The title of this picture is Lockers. I chose this one because it is one of my favorite pictures that I’ve ever taken. I love the high school ‘aesthetic’. I mean we come to school everyday and we walk through the halls and jus mosey about the school. We never stop to find beauty in the smallest of things, like a locker, or a desk. These are amazing details in our school because one of the first things I think of in high school is a locker, but they are often ignored. It expresses that the small things can be just as beautiful as the big things. When I took the picture, the flash went off but I wasn’t expecting it. When I looked at the picture on the desktop, though it looked really good an I loved the shadows it cast on the layer doors. I learned I could clean up pictures easily. I enjoyed this assignment very much and I enjoyed taking the pictures. One thing I would want to change is taking out the locker numbers at the top of the lockers.
Christian P - The Perspective of War
This image is title “The Perspective of War” I took at the Alabama Veterans Memorial in late February of 2018. It is a panoramic made up of about 60 pictures I took with my Nikon D3300 on the inside of the memorial. The main editing I did was just the photo merge to make the panoramic, but I also increased the saturation, brightness and sharpened the image some. I feel like it could have been better if I edited the trees in the background some either by removing them or replacing them with something else and/or if I had added some more spots of color along the wall like with American flags or something like that.
Abby W- Empire of the Sun
This image was taken at one of my favorite spots in Birmingham- Satellite. I eliminated power lines that crossed the photo and turned down the saturation of the photo. I then placed the image on a blank white back drop and placed a cropped picture of a sunset along the side. I used the gradient tool to create the different layers of color on the sun and increased the grain level to make them more dramatic. I then chose a muted color pallet. I added a slight gradient to the black and white image to keep the flow of color from the sun. Last, I added a border around the image to tie it all together.
Katherine P. - Looking Up
The title of my image is called “Looking Up”. It was taken last weekend in downtown Birmingham. I took it with my iPhone 7. I edited it by using the Nik Collection and Photoshop. It could be better if I got more of the building in it.

Olivia N- Paper Flowers
The photo is called Paper Flowers and was taken in Hoover,Al on February 25,2018.I took this picture with an iPhone 7.I edited the picture in Photoshop. It was edited by adding layers of different textures and blending them together.I also added a filter, vignette, and increased the contrast and saturation of the picture. The image could be better if it was shot from a different angle and closer up to the tree.
Kirsten H- Running Blue
This is photo I took is called “Running Blue” for obvious reasons. I took this photo in the HHS courtyard a couple of weeks ago. I really like this photo because I did a ton of editing to it. The colors are all different. I turned the shoe form grey to blue and the green grass to grey. I thought by changing the color of the grass, it would cause the shoe to pop more. I took this photo with my Cannon Powershot SX120 IS. This is why I love this photo so much and how I edited this picture.
Josef H- Big Wrinkly Dogs
This is a photo I took at my Grandmother’s residence in Huntsville. This is an animated windmill make by my Grandfather. I took this photo on my Canon EOS Rebel T6, and I did not edit it any. I took it because I liked the contrast between the warm metal and the cool blue sky. If I edited it, I might brighten up the actual windmill to make it appear more as the focus of the image.
Harrison K- Green
I took this photo with my iPhone 6s. I really like the depth of the picture and the glossy look of the leaves because of the water. I did little editing to this image other than making it darker and bringing out the color.
Alyson W- Nature
The title of my image is named Nature. This photo was taken on February 27, 2018 in the courtyard with a professional camera. I chose this photo for my photo blog because I really loved the colors and lighting shadowing onto the flowers. All I did to edit this photo was add some color and put a filter on it. I do believe this photo could’ve been better if it was focused on everything shown in the picture.
Presley G- Sleepy Puppy
I titled this image “sleepy puppy”. I took this picture on my iPhone 7 plus. I took this picture at my house on my bed while my puppy was sleeping. To edit this image I added a layer and darkened the perimeter. I also brightened her nose to make it stand out more and cropped to make the nose the main focus. To make it better I would get a little bit more of her face in it.
Maura P- Lion
The photo is named Lion because the photo is of a lion statue . I took the photo with my iPhone 6 on the Belmont college campus. I used the charcoal and chalk filter and made the shadowing a purple color. I chose overlay on the layer to bring color back to the picture to make it the shiny rose gold color. The photo is a little blurry looking in my opinion and should have been taken in direct sunlight because it is darker on one side.
Gracie C - Truck
The title of my image is “Truck” because it is a picture of a truck. It was taken in Munford, AL on Mt. Cheaha on September 16, 2017. I took this picture with my Canon EOS Rebel T5. I edited it with Analog Efex Pro back when we did the Nik Assignment. The picture is of a beat-up truck so I wanted the image to kind of mirror that effect. I think this image could be better if it were a little sharper.

Zach B. - Blurred
This is a photo I took of my friend Will. I took this photo late one night at Star Lake while adventuring for cool spots to take photos with my other friend Caleb. I like to think of this photo as my head and how I think, act, respond, etc. In the photo most of the photo is in focus, but due to the long exposure light and parts of Will is blurry. Thus reminding me of how for the most part I’m focused, but in other aspects, there are still parts of me that aren’t right or hazy. I took this photo with my Canon T6. I decided to not edit this photo in photoshop for the plain fact of I like how the colors balanced already and the focus in the photo. I guess if I had to change anything to make the photo better, is to have a little bit more “haze” or blurred parts in the photo to add more to the photo itself.
Madeline T - Spring
I decided to name this photo “Spring.” I took this for the closeup assignment and these flowers were in the courtyard. It was taken with a PENTAX K200D. I made the picture brighter so that the flowers would stand out. It could have been better if the sun was hitting the flower from a different angle.
Teyshaun W- Photo of My Bestie Madelien
The title of the selected image is Photo of My Bestie Madeline. It was taken in the courtyard of Hoover on February 28, 2018. I took the photo with my iPhone 6. I edited it with Photoshop. I used to the basic adjustments like auto color and contrast. Then I also used the Nik Collection to put a filter on it. It could’ve been better if I would’ve taken it with my camera instead of phone. I probably could’ve used a different color mode like sepia or black and white on this also.
Caroline K-"jellyfish"
This picture I named “jellyfish” because it was a jellyfish I found on the beach a few weeks ago. This was taken in Santa Rosa, Florida just a few weeks ago. To edit this picture, I turned up the color a little and added a pinkish tint to it. There were so many jellyfish all over the beach and I thought that they looked super cool.
Zach F - Wardrobe
This picture is called “Wardrobe” since it’s a close up of my mother’s wardrobe. I took the picture in February and edited my adding the brush filter and giving it a lightened layer. This photo had an unexpectedly good turnout compared to what I was expecting to happen. I don’t know if there is any else I can do with this picture to improve it but I genuinely can’t think of a more fitting filter style so if I was going to chose something it would either have to be the lighting or the color.
Christian P - A Window to the Soul
This photo is titled “A Window to the Soul”, this was just taken in school with one of my friends during the close-up assignment in early March. I actually just took this with my phone so that I could have the lighting from the flash which was right next to the camera instead of above it like on my DSLR. I edited it my increasing the structure of and sharpening the eye with the Nik collection sharpener as well as increasing the color some and then making the rest of the photo black and white. I think it could be better if I had had a better camera to preserve the details of the photo after I cropped it, but overall I’m really happy with how this photo turned out.
Hannah J- Journey
This picture is named Journey. It was taken on the train at the zoo on December 26th. I took this picture with a Canon PowerShot. I edited it by messing with the colors and such. I would be better if the circle was more defined and in focus, and if I had done a better job at blending the edges of the circle.
Mollie E- "Sloss Furnace"
This Image is entitled “Sloss Furnace” because that is where this image was taken. I took this picture with my Nikon d3400 camera and to edit it I sued photos and increased the lighting and saturation while adding a small bit of definition. Looking back at it I could have used Photoshop to get rid of some of the writing on the metal.
Danielle M - Insides
The title of this image is “Insides”, because of the details shown of the inside of the flower. I took this with my Nikon D5100 outside of my neighbor’s house; it was for the close-up project. I like this a lot because of the overall color scheme I created from the original picture. I used various Nik filters and textures to give the image the look it currently has. I think it could be better if the entire flower was more in-focus.
Mariam T - Untitled
I took this picture in Mr. Rigsby’s studio using a Canon Rebel T6. I edited it using the Smart Sharpen tool and I put a black and white filter on top of it. I think it would be better if I used real flowers instead of fake ones.
Carson R - Snow Days
This image is entitled “Snow Days”. I took this on the snow day in December on my back porch with my Nikon d3400. I edited this image by increasing the contrast, turning it black and white, and using the levels filter on the nix color Efex collection. I think this image would be better if I had included his ears in the picture.
Alexa S- Dead Recod Player
The title of this photo is “Dead Record Player”. It is of a picture my record player in my room, and It was taken with my Canon SL1. Before editing, this record was off center, so I used Photoshop to clone the straight part of the record and copied it onto the crooked part. I also painted over the record to get rid of the glare from my camera. This picture could be better if it was a little more centered.
Tamoria F- Mama's Cookie Jar
I took this picture with my Canon. My mom has a cookie jar filled with the best frosted oatmeal cookies ever. My little cousins love to eat out of the glass jar, so I decided to capture the cookies when one of them asked for the delicious snack. In this image I dimmed the lighting and added a bit of shadow to the cookies to bring out the tasty frosting. This also allowed the detailing on the cookies to be visible.
Mahogheny L- Sorrow
This is a photo I took back in November right outside of school.I like this picture because the color and facial expression works together to make a sad looking photo.I edited this by making it black and white.I didn’t fi anything on her face because I picture to look more natural than perfect.I think this picture could have been better if she stood out a little more.
Grant S.- Slight
This picture is called “Slight”. I took it around a week ago while on the way home. I edited it by using the bi-color edit in Color Efex. It could be better if maybe I lowered the saturation.
Julia M.- Purple Nature
This picture is called “Purple Nature”. It was taken with my Nikon D80 of a tree outside my house. The picture was also apart of the HDR assignment. It was edited by putting it through the HDR filter and adding saturation which gave it the intense purple. I feel it could have been better if actual bark was more sharp and if the colors were in a wider range.
Cullen S- Teal Sky
This picture was taken outside my house as I enjoyed the nice calm sun and a breeze on a relaxing day. This shot was a panorama of about 18 shots that I then gave a very teal background that then changed everything that wasn’t blue into a pinkish orange that I actually came to enjoy. I increased the contrast and bit and then decided that I was satisfied with my finished product.

Yovani T - Sunset
This picture was taken in January at my uncles home in Alabaster and it was taken with an iPhone 8 plus. I edited it by adjusting the contrast and brightness. I feel like the picture could be better if it was more focused. The reason I chose this picture is because its one of my favorites that I taken. I love this picture so much because of all the colors it has and its just one of my favorites.
Mike H- Welcome to my Home
This image is titled, “Welcome to my Home” because this is where I live. I took this picture in Hoover, Alabama with my LG V20 (phone) using the panorama setting. The only thing I dislike about this shot is that the sun was in the way.
Charis H- Fairy Tails
This picture was given the name “Fairy Tails” it was taken in the photography studio I used an antique book I had at my house and folded in the pages to create the heart. I edited it by vastly increasing the contrast and bumping up the vibrance of the whites, I also made the shadows darker to provide a bigger contrast between the whits and blacks in the picture. As for the improvements I could have probably blurred out the text more in order to center the attention on the heart.
Abby W- Untitled
This is an image of lips with framing fingers. I took this in the studio of the photography room. To edit it, I added a slight Gaussian blur and painted the skin to make it smoother. I then increased the brightness and contrast. Lastly, I added an HDR filter to give it a more eerie feel. To make it better, I feel I could have spent more time blending the shadows of the HDR filter after it applied on top of the original adjustments.
Dalton C. - Greenery
The title of this image is “Greenery”, it was taken behind the school with Mr. Rigsby’s Pentax K200D. I increased the saturation to bring the green and red out more and also darkened the image because the original was kind of bright. I wish that it was a little more clearer in the middle because the camera kind of focused on the leaf and not the whole frame.

Mia R- Dazed
I took this in my room like two weeks ago. I took it with a Canon EOS Rebel SL1. I didn’t edit it at all and I would like the picture more if the necklace was more in focus.
Yuliana Z.- he loves me, he loves me not
I took this photo using a Canon EOS Rebel T6. The photo is titled “he loves me, he loves me not”. This photo was taken of a small flower on the ground in the courtyard. I captured it because it truly shows the beauty in the small things and the indescribable beauty that nature is as it goes unnoticed. I went very low on the ground for this photo because the flower was very small and hidden. The lighting helped to enhance the flower as the focal point in the photo, it helped to keep the focus on the flower, and leave the leaves as just an accent. Photoshop helped me to bring out colors in the photo that weren’t as naturally pigmented, also, it made the flower the obvious focal point which helps the overall composition of the photo. I absolutely adored this assignment, it let me enhance the point of view on pictures and the editing was incredible to experience. It was also the first time I have ever used a professional camera and it was so much fun and so incredible. I would change the photo by changing the angle a little more so you can see more of the flower.
Marshall H- Honey
I chose Honey as my best Image because I really like the contrast between the background and the flowers. The lighting helps my image because more light hits the petals of the flowers and less light is in the flower showing the definition of the flowers. From this assignment I learned more about how to use the Nik collection on photoshop. My overall experiance with this assignment was good because I really liked finding out what things look like up close.
ArzooQ- Beautiful Nature
This picture is one of the best pictures that I have taken in the past 2 months. I love this picture so much because I have the nature and I love to take pictures of the nature. I love to take pictures of leaves and flowers because they have offer so much just by the details that they have. I focused on the leaves as much as I could and brightened it to look more realistic. At the end of editing this picture I darkened the sides a little bit so more of the focus could go towards the beautiful green leaves.
Olivia H- Spring Blossom
The title of this image is Spring Blossom, because this was one of the first flowers I saw this spring. This photo was taken a few weeks ago in my from yard. It was taken with my Canon EOS 7D. I think I could have edited it better if I could get the flower in more focus, and make the light pinks brighter, without turning the flower red.
Hayden H- Eyes into the Past
I took this picture in my room with my photo studio. I added a black & white filter to it, added come brightness, and bumped up the contrast. I took this on my Nikon D7100 with my 50mm lens. I used a shutter speed of 8 seconds and an aperture of 4.8 and an ISO of 100. I really would not change anything about this photo
Amber T- Gracie
The title of the image is Gracie. It was taken near an old train car area in Bluff Park on March 4th. It was taken with my Nikon D70. I edited it by bumping up the color, smoothing out so impurities, and played with the shadows and light a little bit. It could be better if took it at a different angle that included more o the train car.
Emily R- Pods
This picture is called Pods, because it looks like each of the little green stems have a pod at the top. This picture was taken with a Pentax camera with a 4x Micro Lens. I edited this image by adding some grain, sharpening the image and brightening up the middle/ main focus and darkening the back where I wanted less focus. Overall, I really like how this picture turned out!
Anna Kate L- Mads
The title of this image is “Mads”. This photograph was taken at Panama City Beach on November 10th, 2017. I took this picture with a Nikon D3400 DSLR. When I was editing this picture, I turned up the brilliance, exposure, and highlights. I also brightened up the picture to make the sky have a brighter tone. I think this picture could be better if the focus was more on the ocean. I love this picture because it brings back good memories and times with Madeline, my best friend. I can’t wait to go to the beach this summer!
Katherine P. - Vibes
The title of my image is “Vibes”. It was taken in my room with my NIKON COOLPIX L120. I edited it by added a Nic Collection filter in PhotoShop and turning the contrast and saturation up. It could be better if there wasn’t on the record.
Anna H- Untitled
I took this picture downtown a couple months ago with my Canon T2i. I chose this specific subject because the wall behind the dumpster was painted bright colors while the actual dumpster was a dark and somewhat gloomy green. This photo could have been better if I had cleaned up the wall and cropped it a little.
